President Lisa Kauffman called the meeting to order at 8:35am.Board Officers present: Lina Spalding-Ramsay, Bruce Barham, Amanda Kleidermacher, Deanna Christensen, and Mary Porges; 26 attendees; Vice Principal Garcia in attendance.
Agenda item #1– Welcome – Lisa Kauffman
-Lisa welcomed all members
-Reviewed AMK8 PTA accomplishments so far this year and we have allot to be proud of
-Nominating Committee formed – Suzie Sponder, Leda Barham and Rachel Spector, May meeting is PTA elections, motion by Deanna to approve members of nominating committee, Jacqui Roch seconded, all approved
Agenda item # 2 – Approve March General Membership Meeting Minutes – Mary Porges
-Distributed minutes to members, Jackie Roch motioned to approve minutes, Ben Cruz seconded, all approved
Agenda item # 3 – Financial Update – Tim Orrange
-Distributed 2009-2010 budget and balance on hand (3/1/2010) sheets
-We have about $14,800 in the bank
Agenda item # 4 – Get Smart Walk / Earth Day / Festa Junina
-Joan Silverstein - Timing for “walk” will be by grade level
-Suzie Sponder - Earth Day is next Friday, Earth Man, drumming circle, Jungle Island, coast guard, etc. have all confirmed
-Nely Martinez – needs help with Festa Junina and Teacher Appreciation Week (May 3-7)
Agenda item # 5 – 5th Grade Presentation – Leda Barham, Monica Duran, and Carolyn West
-Fundraising to date does not cover cost of chaperone meals ( $350), DJ ($450), breakfast ($162), picture ($1,2500) and decorations ($250) = $2,462 total, these items paid for by PTA in the past (last year PTA paid $500); 5th Grade committee asking for PTA to cover outstanding costs
-Assistant Principal Garcia not 100% sure what school pays for but knows costs have gone up, school does pay for busses and invitations; Carolyn requested that administration prepare budget for event so costs and who pays for what is clear
-There are other costs PTA is faced with - $1,500 for security, $1,150 for Earth Day, and $500 for 8th Grade graduation activities; PTA has $9,000 that has not been spent for courtyard
-Deanna motioned for $1,500 security, $1,150 for Earth Day, $2,000 for 5th Grade and $500 for 8th Grade be approved as a package of cost for PTA to cover, Monica seconded, 14 approved and 12 nays (there was allot of discussion pro and con around this vote)
-See this month’s calendar for bullying presentations; no Career Day this year; report cards on Monday; 5th Grade PYP project on anti-violence and will have a law enforcement officer giving a presentation
Agenda item # 7 – Other
-Gala Update – Deanna – a few items left (idea to raffle them at Teacher’s Appreciation event), we netted about $15,000
-Spring Arts Festival – Bruce – May 16th, silent auction for selected works framed professionally; proceeds will go to Hope School across the street
