President Lisa Kauffman called the meeting to order at 8:40am.  Board Officers present: Tim Orrange, Lina Spalding-Ramsay, Bruce Barham, Amanda Kleidermacher, Deanna Christensen, and Mary Porges.  31 attendees. 

 

Agenda item #1 – Welcome – Lisa Kauffman

-       Lisa welcomed all members

-       Nominating Committee needs to be formed to identify possible candidates for 2010-2011 AMK8 PTA slate, Monica Duran chaired the committee last year, 5 members in committee, we need new blood, committee will be identified in March for May elections

 

Agenda item # 2 – Approve December General Membership Meeting Minutes – Mary Porges

-       Distributed minutes to members, Dania Gorriz motioned to approve minutes, Nely Martinez seconded, (29) approved

 

Agenda item # 3 – Upcoming Events

-       May is second book fair – Amanda Kleidermacher

-       Black History Month Events – Charesse Chester – this Tuesday will have committee meeting at 8:15am, T-shirt sales for $10, $11 and $12, kids can wear T-shirts on Fridays; two assemblies will be held on Thursday February 25th; read to class program needs volunteers; poster program; volunteers will be gotten via room parent network

-       Gala – Deanna Christensen – sponsorship items needed; Nely in charge of volunteers; flyer and invitation will be printed; date is Friday March 19th in Jungle Island; 70s theme, Monica will work with selling tickets; Amanda – items needed by March 1st; will offer teacher of the day, cruise from Celebrity;  need someone to run AR celebration (ice cream party for 160+ kids); lay away plan available to pay $10 a week

 

Agenda item # 4 – Financial Update – Tim Orrange

-       Distributed January 2010 Statement

-       About $24,000 in the bank, book fair netted about $2,100, will detail Go Pass breakdown next meeting

-       Pizza sales are down, Amaryllis needs to give us feedback

 

Agenda item # 5 – “Walkathon” Fundraiser – Joan Silverstein

-       Very successful fundraiser in Key Biscayne School; “Get Smart” event may be held Friday before spring break March 26th, kids will have pledge sheets, if 700 kids each get a $20 pledge it could mean $14,0000 towards smart board; we could equip middle school; need PTA to cover cost of gifts that will be raffled off to the kids - $1,500;  Tim motioned that $2,000 be taken from security line item and all proceeds to go to smart board fundraiser, Amanda seconded, 17 approved and 2 nays;  Lina made the point to respect the fundraising activities with the Gala so a later date will be considered

-       Barbara Gelber – 8th Grade – 31 children; there will be a Green theme dance February 26th from 3-4:30pm for 5-8 graders;  $3 admission, booths, water and soda donations needed; use room parent network, school wide can wear green and jeans that day, Barbara@hunterhunter.com

-       5th Grade fundraiser – Monica Duran – Valentine gifts, please donate books for a book sale, 120 kids in 5th grade

 

Agenda item # 6 - Principal Garcia’s Update

-       Monday report cards; FCAT writing, awards starting on the 16th, Black History Month, letter on interim tests, afternoon police officer giving citations, there from 3-4pm, student council had elections

 

Agenda item # 7 – Other

-       Brenda Schwartz motioned to move $500 from security for hand sanitizer supplies of end of year, Nely Martinez seconded, 24 approved

-       Suzie Sponder – Earth Day performers committed to April 23

 

The meeting was adjourned at 9:45am.
