President Lisa Kauffman called the meeting to order at 5:35pm. Board Officers present: Amanda Kleidermacher, Bruce Barham, Deanna Christensen, Tim Orrange and Mary Porges. 24 attendees.
Agenda item #1 – Welcome – Lisa Kauffman
- Lisa welcomed all members, dinner $5 (pizza, salad, cake)
Agenda item # 2 – Approve October General Membership Meeting Minutes – Mary Porges
- Distributed minutes to members, Marya Meyer motioned to approve minutes, Ben Cruz seconded, all (28) approved
Agenda item # 3 – “Go Pass” Program – Claudia Grillo
- Family only needs to make one check, so far 9 families signed up, family name is on list and allows entry and participation in events
Agenda item # 4 – Upcoming Events – Amanda Kleidermacher
- International Food Festival – this Friday, kids passport for trying foods from all continents, first 200 kids to complete passport will get a prize, please support your class booth
- Pizza sales – Go Pass allows for a slice every Wednesday, Amaryllis needs volunteers, 1 hour every Wednesday
- Book Fair – need someone to chair event, December 11th-17th
- Catalog Sales – all in by November 10th, will introduce holiday shopping – we get 50%
Agenda item # 5 – Financial Update – Tim Orrange
- Distributed monthly report dated 10-31-09, balance of about $26,000, several expenses missing, if a cash deposit must triple check the amount counted, don’t forget deposit slips
- If any students need community service hours please contact Tim
Agenda item # 6 – Principal Garcia’s Update – Given by Lisa Kauffman
- MYP evaluation October 26th and 27th gave AMK8 an outstanding write up, no fixes necessary, “showcase school” used to describe AMK8, November calendar on the web - National Honors Society, science curriculum orientation, IFF, $1,000 from national PTA given for healthy life styles given from grant submitted by Sarah Messiah, 8th Grade parent meeting, report cards, awards ceremonies, science fair projects due November 23rd, siblings survey, etc.
- Security for drop off / pick up not instituted as of yet because we are following protocol to put opportunity out there for more police officers to respond – so far only one officer has responded, question as to expanding security for IS / IE pick up (200 students attend these classes), security at park – always have 2 teachers and one security person with kids are in the park, if people call to complain about security we might get more police coverage, in December we will have a park representative speak at the PTA meeting
- Ms. Davis is the Teacher of the Year, Dr. Dash is Rookie Teacher of the Year, ESAC now in place
- High Schools will be meeting with 8th Graders in Media Center, 5th Grade parents meeting, holiday show at school this year with 2 days of performances
Agenda item # 7 – Internet Resource Navigation Presentation – Sonia Garcia
- Distributed Parent Portal Instruction package and Student Portal Reference Guide, Pin # is needed, link from AMK8 site, can download antivirus software for portal, Beyond the Bell initiative – 3rd-11th Grade skill builders for math reading and science, can get e-mails if you request certain alerts, password is 2 digit month and 4 digit year of birth, can change password, view grade and attendance, Web math is a good tool, Virtual Library – world book in different languages for research, teachers all in training, if you have trouble tell teachers and will submit a ticket, also self-service to report problems

Agenda item # 8 – Other
- Deanna Anderson motioned that meeting for the rest of the year be held in the morning after drop off, Tim Orrange seconded the motion, 21 approved, 3 rejected motion
The meeting was adjourned at 7:35pm.
