President Lisa Kauffman called the meeting to order at 6:00pm.  Board Officers present: Floriana Martinez, Tim Orrange, Amanda Kleidermacher, Nely Martinez, Bruce Barham and Mary Porges.   

Agenda item # 1 – Welcome – Lisa Kauffman
-    Last General Meeting of the school year
-    Gala money will need to go to a vote to determine if money goes to renovate courtyard or class room renovations
-    County will send out an inspector to determine cause of erosion problems in courtyard and there may be monetary support from county
-    Monies will stay in deposit until we have results of courtyard study and will then know what our options are
-    Only vote taken so far is that money will go to courtyard not if artificial grass or real grass will be used
-    Carolyn West made a motion that the PTA Board elected officers meet over the summer and agree with administration to decide option for courtyard, Ron Kauffman seconded motion, vote 16 for, 7 against
-    National PTA Convention in Ft. Lauderdale June 26th-29th

Agenda item # 2 – Treasurer’s Report – Tim Orrange
-    Distributed budget and reviewed
-    Balance of $27,297.30 as of May 31st

Agenda item # 3 – School Updates – Principal Garcia
-    Inter-local agreement will provide substantial fencing to park across the street and will be completed this summer
-    Students may go to park for recess, once we have all the information will make the decision
-    We have no idea what county will offer for courtyard renovation
-    This Friday May calendar will be available – Career Day, Field Day, awards, etc.
-    FCAT writing scores did very well with a higher percentage (88 to 96%)
-    IB visit had 21 minor recommendations, all fixed within minutes.  New York report goes to Geneva for results in July
-    Application B – building 8th Grade, 20 teachers MYP / PYP trained
-    Ada Merritt featured in Portuguese in South Florida media, participated in FIU panel discussion about Portuguese education, etc.
-    Our student art work has been showcased 4 different times
-    5th Grade graduation coming and package will be sent, 101 students, buses hold 55 passengers each, Universal trip, May 29th graduation is at Rusty Pelican, $2,000 raised for 5th Grade activities

Agenda item # 4 – New Business – Lisa Kauffman
-    Popcorn machine management (PTA purchased) – who is in charge? Guidelines? 
-    Nely Martinez made a motion that the popcorn machine be for school use only for sponsored events with PTA members and request PTA board permission to use for benefit of school.   Group requesting use of machine would buy supplies and clean machine before returning.  A volunteer is needed to coordinate these activities and would need to know how to operate machine (teach group how to operate machine as well).  A $20 maintenance fee will be collected up front.  Carolyn West will not be the popcorn queen.  Patricia Cruz seconds. 

Agenda item # 5 – Upcoming Events – Carolyn West, Ana Luisa, and Amanda Kleidermacher
-    Teacher Appreciation Week activities – Carolyn almost had to turn parents away because of the tremendous response, breakfast, manicures, crepe lunch, Friday yoga class, teachers attending PTA meeting were recognized
-    Accelerated Reader bowling trip is May 21st
-    Book Fair going on this week, new books in (Louise Lowery, etc.)
-    Festa Junina – performance before event, slide show comparing to Brazil events, mechanical bull for older kids, 18 booths, bracelet $10 all you can play, 3 for $25, need 3 booths assigned, need cleanup crew, vendors need to complete forms, there is a 8:15 am meeting tomorrow

 Agenda item # 7 – Nominating Committee Presentation and Election
-    Monica Duran presented slate and asked if anyone want to run or be nominated for 2009-2010 PTA board positions.  No one responded and Monica motioned to approve slate of officers and all yes from members in attendance


Agenda item # 8 – Approve April’s General Membership Meeting – Mary Porges
-    Distributed April minutes
-    Motion to approve by Monica Duran / Ms. Sarah Forand seconds
