President Lisa Kauffman called the meeting to order at 8:45am.  Board Officers present: Floriana Martinez, Tim Orrange, Amanda Kleidermacher, Nely Martinez, Bruce Barham, Mary Porges, and Toni Anderson.    

Agenda item #1 – Welcome – Lisa Kauffman
-    May 6th is Elections Meeting, 5pm dinner meeting, encourage teachers to attend
-    Sign up for CAPWIZ to obtain legislative updates
-    School undergoing study from County for sloping and land erosion in courtyard.  We will get findings before school ends.  May get funds from County.  We are on hold for courtyard renovation until then
-    Georgina added to Nominating Committee, Lisa made motion, Amanda seconds

Agenda item # 2 – Approve March’s General Membership Meeting – Mary Porges
-    Distributed March minutes
-    Motion to approve by Carolyn West / Deanna Christensen seconds

Agenda item # 3 – Treasurer’s Report – Tim Orrange
-    Distributed budget
-    $33,000 last month balance, $6,000 catalogue, $2,200 pizza
-    Gala net around $16,000+

Agenda item # 4 – Gala Recap – Floriana Martinez and
-    Less people / less tickets sold but more revenue
-    Many items still unsold, dollar amount given to unsold items and list will be distributed

Agenda item # 5 – Earth Day April 24th – Suzie Sponder
-    Many events - Lenny Smith, Vanishing Species, exotic pets, drum circle, Miami Children Museum, Jungle Island, electric car, shredder truck, etc.
-    Vendors needs and volunteers needed
-    Need to take pictures at event for news coverage and submit for possible grant money
-    Can wear green Earth Day for a suggested $1 donation
-    Company will be there to exchange old fixtures (showerheads, etc.) for new efficiency fixtures

Agenda item # 6 – Festa Junina – Ana Luisa
-    Date is in question
-    Want focus to be “What is Festa Junina?”
-    Want performances, need stage, booths will be assigned to classrooms, ticket will be bracelets (1 for $10, 3 for $25), vendors may be considered

Agenda item # 7 – SIPA Update – Carmen Partridge
-    2 full scholarships given to Ada Merritt students
-    Detailed scholarship requirements from SIPA given – financial need, scholastic performance, A in Spanish and IS, conduct excellent, and effort is # 1
-    Each class has chosen a Student of the Year and IS Teacher of the Year
-    $400+ raised for car wash, $1,275+ raised so far.  
-    Request for 2 / $500 scholarships, motion for 1 / $500 SIPA scholarship and 1 / $500 5th Grade Trip scholarship, Carolyn seconds.  How will we know 5th Graders that need money for trip?
-    SIPA funding Ms. Lobaina’s trip to Spain

Agenda item # 8 – Upcoming Events – Amanda Kleidermacher
-    Festa Junina, Earth Day and Teacher Appreciation Week
-    Accelerated Reader bowling trip is May 21st
-    Toni Porro will head up Book Fair, normally make about $2,000, will try to get summer reading list and make those books available

Agenda item # 9 – School Updates – Principal Garcia
-    Calendar will be posted this Friday, many events through the end of the year, April 30th is Teacher for the Day Program, PYP refresher for parents on April 14th, luncheon is the 16th will PYP Committee, Friday is SAT / FCAT celebration
-    Lost and Found items need to be picked up by Friday, will be donated if not picked up
-    April 13th and 14th K, 1, 3 and 6 Graders will have vision and hearing screenings
