President Lisa Kauffman called the meeting to order at 8:40am.  Board Officers Amanda Kleidermacher, Tim Orrange, Mary Porges, Lina Spalding-Ramsay, Deanna Anderson and Bruce Barham were present.  Committee Chairs Suzie Sponder, Ben Cruz, Carolyn West, Patricia Cruz, Nely Martinez, Barbara Gelber and Joan Silverstein were also present.

 

Agenda item #1 – Welcome and Updates – Lisa Kauffman

  • Teacher Grant requests:
  • Ms. Perez – to bring Dr. Covadonga Talavero’s Spanish endangered animal curriculum for 2 presentations in April, was with the Madrid zoo for 16 years - $400, Carolyn motioned to approve, Patricia seconded, all approved
  • Ms. Sanchez-Jimenez – 2 sets (25 books each) of Spanish books El Cid Contado a Los Ninos and El Lazarillo Contado a Los Ninos for next year, will keep the books in storage until then - $588; Mary will contact Random House representative in Barcelona and find out if books can be donated and we pay shipping costs
  • Ms. Fuller - last year PTA approved $3,000 grant for Ms. Fuller that has not been used, $4,900 now being requested for spring arts festival, Amanda made a motion to approved $2,000 with a review to revisit additional grant money at the end of the year, Lina seconded, all approved
  • Pizza sales – pizza profit $1,000 so far, Amaryllis is committed to selling water on Wednesdays, Deanna will do am announcements for pizza and wings today

 

Agenda item # 2 – Green Day Update – Suzie Sponder

  • Many of last year’s performances have confirmed their participation
  • Jungle Island will host an Ada Merritt Day on Saturday April 24th and $5 of the ticket price will go to the charity UM Global for Haiti

 

Agenda item # 3 – Gala Update – Deanna Anderson

  • We have the tickets, will go on sale Monday February 22nd
  • We will honor AMK8 teacher of the year Mrs. David and AMK8 rookie teacher of the year Dr. Dash

 

Agenda item # 4 – Other

  • Green Dance for 5-8grades will be held Friday February 26 at 3pm until 4:30pm, admission fee is $3
  • Bruce – snow cone machine is $950 + cart with 3 gallons of syrup, would be profitable and pay for itself, Lisa will get formal approval from administration
  • Joan – Get Smart Walk (walkathon) for smart boards scheduled for April 16th
  • Leda – 5th grade profits from Valentine Day sales a little over $1,000, will have used book sale March 4,5,11 and 12, each classroom to collect donated books
  • Lina voiced concern that many events will compete with the Gala, many agreed

 

The meeting was adjourned at 9:35 am.
