Minutes – Board Meeting

President Lisa Kauffman called the meeting to order at 8:35am.  Board Officers present: Floriana Martinez, Tim Orrange, Amanda Kleidermacher, Bruce Barham, Mary Porges, and Toni Anderson. 

Agenda item #1 – Treasurer’s Update – Tim Orrange
-    $14,800 + from auction items

Agenda item # 2 – Teacher Grants – Lisa Kauffman
-    Bigger issues as budget cuts continue – 20% cuts across the board in Dade County, $10,000 budget for teacher grants, exact amount for upcoming teacher grants needs to be determined so we know what we can move to courtyard, general membership meeting will need to vote to change budget
-    Requests – Brain Pop $2,000, art supplies $1,187, and AR license due $1,000-$2,000

Agenda item # 3 – School Security – Nely Martinez
-    There was a lapse in afternoon police coverage, PTA paying for half and school paying for half of police costs
-    School campaign for kids to keep parents in line to follow rules

Agenda item # 4 – Principal’s Report – Principal Carmen Garcia
-    Jackie Sanchez asked that parents complete PYP survey via school website under Resources, 9 have completed but need more for re-authorization, parent meeting on the 14th with Jackie Sanchez and need at least 25 parents to participate in parent meeting and luncheon on the 16th at 12pm with committee – send e-mail to room parents, review is every 3 years
-    Students will be admistrators for the day
-    Geography Bee for 3-7 Grades next Wednesday

Agenda item # 5 – Committee Updates
-    Health Initiative – Sarah Messiah:   Event in school in April focusing on healthy breakfast with Curious George theme (bananas, smoothies), Parents Academy and Juicy Juice want to do something for school it is a matter of picking a date
-    Black History Month – Charesse Chester:  Month was a success, should have videotaped the event, looking for a pizza recruit, pizza sales down from 35 to 30 pizzas per week and 1-2 boxes left over

Agenda item # 6 – Other
-    Open question – what is the courtyard solution?   Lisa will need help to present facts to general membership as far as costs that need to be covered, meet on the 26th in anticipation for General Meeting on the 1st
-    Committee is canvassing for next year’s board positions
-    General Membership meeting after school so teachers can come, Charesse makes motion for 5pm meeting with dinner, all vote yes
