Minutes – Board Meeting

President Lisa Kauffman called the meeting to order at 8:35am.  Board Members present – Bruce Barham, Tim Orrange, Amanda Kliedermacher, Mary Porges, and Toni Anderson.   

Agenda item #1 –Group Photo taken in the courtyard of the school    

Agenda item # 2 – Treasurer’s Update – Tim Orrange
-    $26,575 balance, $5,742 revenue and $2,400 expenses in December,
-    Check request from Brazilian visit needs to be classified
-    $4,000 allocated for teacher appreciation
-    PTA cash box located on top of PTA file cabinet in office

Agenda item # 3 – Gala Update – Floriana Martinez
-    Three committees needed – logistics, items, and processing payments
-    Location will be Jungle Island on March 13th (Friday)
-    Jungle Island cost is $29 per person
-    Bacardi will not sponsor this year
-    Need to get flyer out and start search for auction items

Agenda item # 4 – Butterfly Garden – Janet Forte
-    Ms. Davis is involved
-    Concerns voiced by teachers that courtyard is very dry and does not have grass
-    Fundraising ideas to maintain garden – plant sales, sponsor trees, plaques, etc.

Agenda item # 5 – Sounds of the Season DVD Update – Bruce Barham
-    Room parents will collect orders and money for DVD, orders and money will be received by Leda Barham

Agenda item # 6 –Updates – Lisa Kauffman
-    PTA General Membership Meeting moved to Wednesday January 14th, Bruce will prepare flyer
-    Need to identify person to head fundraising
-    Upcoming events – Book Fair, Earth Day April 24th (Suzie Sponder), Festa Junina May 8th
-    Reason for Gala – Smart Boards, promote math and science, tickets will remain at $50, good idea to do Smart Board demo January 14th during PTA General Membership Meeting
-    Reviewed holiday gifts for security, cafeteria personnel, office and custodial staff


Agenda item # 7 – Other
-    Amanda – Issues with catalog sales directed to Great American 800-251-1542 or Sally Foster 305-984-1807
-    Ms. Garcia – Science Update for parents on January 30th at 8:45am, security seems to be working, administration will work on changing loading zone to be only in front of school, a priority is for grass material in courtyard area
