Minutes
Attendees: Lisa Kauffman, Toni Anderson, Floriana Martinez, Tim Orrange, Nely Martinez, Bruce

Not in Attendance: Carmen Garcia
Treasurer’s Update
• 9/1 Balance in bank: $13,311.15
As of 9/17: $29,280.98
Revenues included: uniforms, previous bank acct consolidations, dues, pizza revenues
• Safebox was installed in mailroom. For membership dues/forms, it was decided that all forms and deposits will go into the safebox. Tim and Floriana will reconcile membership forms visavis monies to be deposited.
• Action: Tim to re-email board all forms (deposit slip, reimbursements, etc…)
• Action: Barbara Garcia to identify a safe place for us to move our items with cash value (e.g. tickets from festa junina). Once identified, we will meet behind cafeteria to organize our stuff and move any materials as needed.
• Action: Tim to pay Ms. O’Rourke from leftover gala double charge issue. (done)
• Lisa requested to separate spending from ’07-’08 year vs ’08-’09.
Int’l Food Festival Update (Nely)
• Planning is off to a good start. Festival confirmed for Friday 10/17 from 5-8:30pm
• Tkts will start to sell on Oct. 1st. Prices currently planned are $25 for all 7 booths (same price for adults/kids). Handled with a special bracelet. $1 indiv tkts will also be sold.
• An int’l passport will be developed for kids to make it fun to sample foods from all the booths.
Vote:
• A motion was made and seconded to appoint Mary Porges as Recording Secretary. All voted in favor.
Security:
• Sg. Palacio from Dade Schools Police attended our mtg and discussed security with us. In his view, short term support for pick up and drop off area will not be effective.
• Action: Barbara Garcia to see if aftercare can split the estimated annual cost of $10,000 with PTA to provide support for pick up and drop off (2 hours per day) for the entire school year. (done). Then we’ll take it to gen’l membership for a vote to amend budget for PTA to cover $5,000 towards Security.
• Key phone numbers: 305-579-6111 (non-emergency); 305-995-COPS(1553) for emergencies.
• We had discussion on how morning drop off on 4th street side can be more efficient.
• Action: Barbara Garcia to investigate what can be done if school security person can take a more active role to move people thru faster.
• We agreed that Sgt Palacio would attend Oct. gen’l membership meeting to make a presentation.
• We agreed to amend the budget to $5,000 for security and take it to gen’l membership vote at October gen’l membership meeting.
Special Events Update (Amanda)
• We reviewed Hispanic Heritage plans for 10/15-10/17. We agreed to NOT fundraise $1 per child, and to rely on budget already allocated to Hispanic heritage events.
Catalog Fundraising Update (Nely)
• Sale to begin 10/1.
• Help is needed to distribute catalogs in teacher mailboxes.
Membership Campaign Update (Floriana)
• A room parent meeting will be scheduled to roll out the campaign. Plan to rollout campaign prior to 10/1.
Music Update (B. Garcia)
• Barbara Garcia reviewed with us how the newly purchased string instruments are being utilized in 4th and 5th grade curriculum.
Other Business:
• Carolyn West and Suzie Sponder to re-implement the electronic collection bins program.
• School confirmed that a library aide position is in the budget and person will be hired once the hiring freeze is lifted by the county.
• Action: Barbara Garcia to confirm the hours that the library is to be open.
• Judy Schaechter leading an initiative for hurricane relief inclusive of both United Way and American Red Cross.
Meeting was adjourned at approximately 10:00am.
