Fall Highlights
International Food Fest a Hit! Your Ada Merritt PTA wants to thank the entire Ada Merritt K-8 community for another successful International Food Festival, Friday November 13, 2009.
If you were a member of the coordinating committee or a parent or student who pitched in to set up or clean up, you are to be commended for all the work you did. Whether you prepared some of the delicious food or were an enthusiastic attendee we want to acknowledge the importance of your participation. Let’s thank Amanda Kleidermacher for her steady leadership and countless hours that inspired the parent and student volunteers. A very special thank you goes out to Virtudes and her dedicated custodial staff who worked all day and then stayed after hours to put the campus back together. Photographs of the event are available on the PTA website: http://www.adamerrittpta.citymax.com/iff09.html
NATIONAL AWARD BRINGS RENOWNED SPEAKER TO AM K-8 On Friday, November 13, 2009, Ada Merritt was graced with the presence of Mr. Tony Geraci, Director of Food and Nutrition for the Baltimore School District and Founding Member of the Farm to School Program. Mr. Geraci’s presentation on “How to Begin a Farm to School Program in Miami Dade County” was both engaging and interactive, challenging our children to commit to good eating habits as a means of promoting their own health and wellness. This presentation was made possible as a result of a National PTA Lifestyle Award our PTA received. Special thanks to Healthy Lifestyle Committee chair Sarah Messiah for her grant work to cover the cost for this informative presentation.

The school’s Green Team has recycled over a ton of electronics, saved countless trees, decreased the school's carbon footprint, and most importantly, educated Ada Merritt students on the importance of respecting the world and the environment. Join the Green Team and make a lasting difference. With the right mix of education and enrichment, the students of Ada Merritt children will no doubt become environmental stewards of the future. Students, parents, teachers and staff should together commit to set a good example by actively demonstrating how much they value nature and all the living things on earth, and by doing their part in greening the school. This year, the Green Team is expanding its efforts toward water conservation and nutrition related activities. For more information and to volunteer, contact: Ben Cruz, mailto:artmagus@bellsouth.net
Please Don’t Miss the Next PTA Meeting All parents should mark their calendars for next month’s PTA General Membership Meeting on Wednesday, January 13th at 8:30 a.m. Details about the agenda will be provided at the beginning of the new year.
