ACCELERATED READER
CHALLENGE HAS BEGUN!!!!!!!!!!
Parents,
Its that time of year again when our kids will be challenged to read, read, and read. You are all encouraged to start early and plan accordingly to earn points for an end of the year surprise for the Gold & Silver Readers.
Please visit the library and check out books each week and earn points to get to the goal. Should you have any questions regarding the AR challenge, please visit Ms. Sonia Garcia in the library and she will happily guide you.
Here are some fun facts about AR and what it means for our kids:
Accelerated Reader (AR) is a daily progress monitoring software assessment in wide use by primary and secondary schools for monitoring the practice of reading. Currently, there are two versions: a desktop version and a web-based version.
Accelerated Reader is an assessment that primarily determines whether or not a child has read a book. The software provides additional information to teachers regarding reading rates, amount of reading, and other variables related to reading. Additionally, a number of other assessments are available to assess higher order thinking skills and vocabulary. Quizzes can be taken on fiction and non-fiction books. As of 2006, there are over 100,000 books in the Accelerated Reader database.
There are two steps to using Accelerated Reader. First, students choose and read a book. Second, students take a quiz either at school or at home through the Ada Merritt Webpage.
The challenge is on and our kids are ready.......... let's do it.
